Walking the halls of LEAP 2026 in Riyadh this week, one thing is particularly clear.

The question is no longer simply:

Vision 2030 has driven sustained investment in digital infrastructure and technology adoption across the Kingdom.
Digital government has advanced rapidly. Cloud adoption has increased. Connectivity has expanded. Data has become increasingly important to both public and private-sector organisations.
At the same time, some of the world’s most ambitious developments are being built across the Kingdom.
The next stage is therefore less about introducing digital technology and more about extracting greater value from it.
That distinction is important.
As Saudi Arabia moves further into AI, automation and increasingly connected physical infrastructure, the challenge changes from digital adoption to digital scale.

That shift is visible at LEAP.

Enterprise networks were once relatively easy to define.
They connected computers, printers, phones and servers.
Today, the edge of the network can include almost anything.
Today, the edge of the network can include access points, cameras, sensors, displays, building systems, industrial equipment, access-control and point-of-sale systems, asset-tracking technologies, employee and customer devices, and an expanding range of IoT equipment.
This changes network design.
The requirements of those devices vary considerably. Major technology trends can create pressure to upgrade everything.
That is rarely the right approach.
WiFi 7 offers important advances in wireless capacity, efficiency and performance.
For new Saudi developments, high-density environments and locations expected to experience significant growth in wireless demand, those capabilities can be highly relevant.
But WiFi 6 remains entirely appropriate for many enterprise applications.
The objective should not be to install the newest technology simply because it exists.
It should be to understand what the organisation is trying to achieve and build infrastructure appropriate to that requirement.
Technology strategy should follow business strategy, not the other way around.
The Network Behind the WiFi Still Matters
Wireless connectivity is the part of the network most users notice.
But access points do not operate independently.
They connect into switches and depend on Ethernet or fibre infrastructure, often with Power over Ethernet. Traffic then has to move through the wider network to applications that may sit in the cloud or a data centre, while remote locations can introduce additional backhaul requirements.
A high-performance access point connected to inadequate switching simply moves the bottleneck.
Enterprise network planning therefore needs to consider the complete path from the device to the application rather than treating WiFi as an isolated technology purchase.

The scale and nature of Saudi development creates another infrastructure requirement.
Connectivity frequently needs to extend outside conventional indoor environments.
Campuses, industrial facilities, hospitality destinations, public spaces, remote buildings and large mixed-use developments can all require connectivity beyond conventional indoor environments.
These locations can require outdoor wireless coverage, ruggedised network infrastructure and different approaches to backhaul.
Fibre remains appropriate for many permanent connections.
But there are also situations where excavation is difficult, disruptive or slow.
Point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless technologies can provide additional ways of extending network connectivity across distributed sites.
The important point is that enterprise infrastructure increasingly needs to be designed around the whole physical environment, not simply the communications room.
Managing the Network May Become Harder Than Building It
As networks become larger and more distributed, another challenge emerges.
Operations.
Installing hundreds of network devices is one task.
Managing them for the next five or ten years is another.
IT teams need visibility and consistent configuration. They need to know when equipment is unavailable, understand where users are experiencing problems and add new locations without recreating the network each time. Ideally, they should also be able to identify and resolve many problems without sending an engineer to site.
This is why centralised network management becomes increasingly valuable.
The benefit is not simply technical convenience.
It is operational scale.
Resilience Becomes More Important as the Economy Becomes More Digital
Successful digital transformation creates dependency.
When a business process becomes digital, connectivity matters more.
When an application moves to the cloud, connectivity matters more.
When cameras, sensors or operational systems become networked, connectivity matters more.
And when AI becomes integrated into everyday operations, the infrastructure carrying the data becomes more important again.
Network availability is therefore no longer simply an IT performance metric.

Perhaps the most interesting message we take away from LEAP 2026 is that the technology conversation in Saudi Arabia is becoming more mature.
Digital transformation itself is no longer particularly remarkable.
The Kingdom has already created substantial digital capability.
The next challenge is using technology at greater scale and turning that capability into sustained economic and operational value.
AI and cloud will be part of that next stage, alongside connected buildings, IoT, automation and increasingly intelligent infrastructure.
Underneath them will remain the networks that allow people, applications, machines and data to communicate.
